I'm after an SZ! - plus speedo question

I'm after an SZ! - plus speedo question

Postby Lonefurrow » Tue Sep 15, 2015 4:10 pm

Hi all,

Cheating here with 2 topics in one post - firstly, I'm just starting my search for an SZ, so if any of you know of one coming up for sale (or are thinking of selling yours), please let me know. Secondly, I know that all of the cars were lhd, but I assume that the UK cars had MPH speedos? If any of you have imported cars, did you have to change the speedos over prior to registering in the UK and, if so, is it a standard Alfa part, still available?

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum :D

Mine is a UK car so not entirely sure what the situation is with speedos.

Have you seen this car on fleabay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262030480528? ... EBIDX%3AIT

There's a picture of the speedo showing only km but I guess a mph sticker over the top of the dial will suffice...but hopefully there's a better solution!

Hi Tim
There's an SZ on Pistonheads.
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... a-romeo/sz

There is also a picture of the cars speedo which is in km/h only. I assume it's a UK car.

Good luck with search, keep us posted if you find anything.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I saw that one on ebay - ad rather lacking in info, but I can see that it has non-standard seats and steering wheel (I'd like a car as close to standard as possible). The one at Southwood (on Pistonheads) I will ring up about, but I know that it will be outside of my budget, as is practically a new car!

There's one here in BE as well.

Also seems pretty pricey to me.

I think UK cars should have MPH speedos as standard...mine has anyway.

Missed the seats, they look very close to the original shape and colour; the tilt handle on the side is certainly an improvement....although the seatbelt holes aren't :?

Yes, that one looks ok - price wise, not cheap, but that's the way they are heading! Actually, that's what promted the speedo question...

Well, I viewed the Southwood car on Friday. Absolutely beautiful (super-low mileage), and I definitely must have an SZ now! Unfortunately, due to a sudden downpour, I wasn't able to drive it (it's apparently never been out in the rain), and it's probably too low milage and too high price for me. However, it does apparently have the optional lightweight rear wing :D (really?).

The question is, will I be able to find another one it great condition, but with a few more miles under its belt, without travelling to Europe (before next spring) - I guess only time will tell.

Optional rear wing

Have you been in contact with any of the SZ specialists to see if they know of any owners considering selling?

I could also drop the ES30 Registrar and email if you like? That's how I got mine, a deal was done before it hit the open market.
